This year the weather lived up to our hopes, bright sunshine and warm temperatures all day. A complete contrast to 2007.
We had four American visitors, Grace Hammesfahr (treasurer of the 95th BG Legacy), her son Ernie, Janie McKnight (president of the 95th BG Legacy and Russ Askey, son of  95th BG navigator Russ Askey.
The weekend started with Janie McKnight unveiling the 95th BG dedication plaque in the Red Feather Club on Friday Night. Saturday brought a highly successful 1940s dance at Stradbroke Community Centre ( organised by Alan Roper), featuring the Chris Walls Band.
Sunday saw the main event with our Grand Open Day at the Red Feather Club, featuring many military vehicles, re-enactors of the101st Airborne Divn and the 10th Army Field Hospital. An Honour Guard from RAF Mildenhall opened the proceedings, with Andrew Castleden as Master of Ceremonies and Janie McKnight representing our American visitors.
Janie and Grace presented an illustrated copy of  Kate Kirkum’s  poem “The Old Airfield” to Kate. A group of young film makers interviewed local residents, recalling their wartime memories of Horham and the airfield.
In the afternoon the Avro Lancaster and Hawker Hurricane Battle of Britain Memorial Flight gave a flypast over  the runway. Denham Village Hall ( the Guard Room ) was open for tea and cakes, St Mary’s Church allowed access to the church spire and a service of remembrance was held in the evening. The Hospital Museum was also open all day.
